Donald (Don) was working for Hunts Cannery when he was offered a job with the Cheynes Beach Whaling Company through Bob Cooper, an Engineer at the time, also used to spot whales for the company on occassions.
Don lived in the Single Men's quarters when he worked at the station. He can remember when ther was an old steam truck where the roller dryers now are, the boiler was disconnected from the engine and a steam pipe was connected. That was used to drive a vacuum dryer for the meat meal. A big seperator was just around the corner on the eastern side of the digesters.
