Ron Charles Ralph

Job Description
Hooky, Winch Driver, Meal Bagging, Assistant Welder

Period
1949 - 1952

"My time working at the Whaling Station was during 1949 to 1952. I was as a hooky on the top deck putting the cut up whale into the cookers. I also learnt to drive the steam winches and pulling the blubber from the whales, and then worked below unloading the cooker with Mick Gibson and a young son of Mr. Edmunds (Ross) who was one of the bosses (Fred Edmunds). I was an assistant with Andy Woonings when there were no whales, as he did welding and various other jobs. My brother Bob (Robert) Ralph worked at the station also, but before my time, doing the cooking. My cousin Bill Ralph also worked for the company driving the towboat out to the chasers to tow the whales in”.
