Steven was a dekhand on Cheynes III for one season.
“Gordon Cruickshank once taught me how to splice. He showed me how to splice an “eye splice” (loop). He showed me twice and said “go to the fruit box and I don’t want to see you until you can do it on your own”. Another time I asked him where Bernie (I think he was the 2nd Mate) was (Bernie Morris). He replied “At the corner shop” – we were on the Continental Shelf at the time.
